What is liraglutide?
The “predecessor” of semaglutide. Works in a similar way, but has to be injected daily and is less effective for weight loss.
How well studied is liraglutide?
SCALE trials: on average around 8% weight loss over one year. In use for many years, so there is good long-term data.
What side effects and risks does liraglutide have?
Nausea, diarrhoea, constipation; rarely pancreatitis and gallstones.
Is liraglutide approved in Germany?
In short: yes. Approved in the EU, prescription-only. Because of the long track record, sometimes an option when newer drugs are not available.
