What is cagrilintide?
Mimics amylin, a hormone released together with insulin. It curbs appetite through a different pathway than GLP-1 – which is why it is combined with semaglutide.
How well studied is cagrilintide?
Phase 2 as a single substance (Lancet 2021). The combination CagriSema was studied in phase 3 (REDEFINE); the application for approval in the USA was submitted in December 2025.
What side effects and risks does cagrilintide have?
Nausea, constipation, feeling overly full – stronger in combination with GLP-1 medications.
Is cagrilintide approved in Germany?
In short: no – still in trials. Not approved on its own. Taken on top of a GLP-1 medication, it slows digestion even further.
