What is MOTS-c?

Produced by the mitochondria (the cell’s “power plants”). Said to improve metabolism and insulin sensitivity via the energy sensor AMPK.

How well studied is MOTS-c?

Mostly animal studies (mice: better insulin sensitivity, less weight gain). Robust human studies are lacking.

What are the side effects and risks of MOTS-c?

Unknown. In theory, low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) in combination with other glucose-lowering medications.

Is MOTS-c approved in Germany?

In short: no. Not approved. Banned in sport as a non-approved substance (WADA S0).
