What is VIP (vasoactive intestinal peptide)?
VIP is an endogenous neuropeptide found in the nervous system, gut, lungs and blood vessels that, among other things, widens blood vessels and dampens inflammation. Aviptadil is the synthetic form for medical use.
How well studied is VIP (vasoactive intestinal peptide)?
Combined with phentolamine for injection into the penis, aviptadil was tested for erectile dysfunction in controlled trials (including a comparison with alprostadil in 187 patients). Trials in COVID-19 and other lung diseases did not show a proven benefit; there are no solid data for nasal sprays “against mould/inflammatory syndromes”.
What side effects and risks does VIP (vasoactive intestinal peptide) have?
Facial flushing is common; vasodilating effects can cause low blood pressure and a racing heart – relevant with blood pressure medication. Injection into the penis can cause bruising and bleeding. Grey-market products are untested.
Is VIP (vasoactive intestinal peptide) approved in Germany?
In short: no – only outside the EU. Aviptadil is approved only in combination with phentolamine for erectile dysfunction in some European countries (including the UK and Scandinavia); as far as available information shows, no VIP product is marketed in Germany. Prescription-only; in sport, unapproved uses fall under WADA S0.
