What is Torasemide?
Loop diuretic with a longer action than furosemide. Prescribed for oedema due to heart failure, liver or kidney disease and for high blood pressure.
How well studied is Torasemide?
Approved for decades and clinically established.
What side effects and risks does Torasemide have?
Dehydration, low potassium, magnesium and sodium (leg cramps, constipation, heart rhythm disturbances), kidney problems, ringing in the ears up to hearing loss. On GLP-1 therapy: vomiting, diarrhoea, sweating and low fluid intake add to fluid and electrolyte losses. Interacts with NSAIDs, other diuretics, ACE inhibitors/ARBs, corticosteroids; not with a sulfa allergy.
Is Torasemide approved in Germany?
In short: yes. Approved in Germany/EU, prescription-only. WADA: diuretic (S5), prohibited at all times. Regular blood-pressure and electrolyte checks are part of treatment. Taking it without a prescription and medical monitoring – e.g. bought from “peptide shops” – is dangerous: unknown quality, no lab checks, no adjustment to blood pressure, kidney values or other medicines.
