What is Semax?
Derived from a fragment of the stress hormone ACTH, but without its hormonal effects. Said to support concentration, memory and recovery after stroke, partly via the nerve growth factor BDNF.
How well studied is Semax?
Approved as a medicine in Russia (e.g. after stroke). The studies come almost exclusively from Russia; independent Western controlled trials are lacking.
What are the side effects and risks of Semax?
Mostly described as well tolerated; irritation of the nasal lining is possible. Long-term data from outside Russia are lacking.
Is Semax approved in Germany?
In short: no – only outside the EU. Not approved in the EU.
