What is Ramipril?
Blocks formation of angiotensin II, widens blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. Prescribed for high blood pressure, heart failure after a heart attack and to reduce cardiovascular risk.
How well studied is Ramipril?
Approved for decades; reduction of heart attack, stroke and death in high-risk patients shown in large trials.
What side effects and risks does Ramipril have?
Typically dry cough, dizziness, low blood pressure. Rarely dangerous angioedema (swelling of face/throat), even after months. Raised potassium (no potassium supplements/salt substitutes without advice), watch kidney function; harmful to the unborn child. On GLP-1 therapy: vomiting, diarrhoea or low fluid intake can cause a steep drop in blood pressure, electrolyte disorders and acute kidney failure; falling blood pressure with weight loss adds to this. Interacts with diuretics, NSAIDs (ibuprofen), lithium.
Is Ramipril approved in Germany?
In short: yes. Approved in Germany/EU, prescription-only. Not on the WADA Prohibited List. Not in pregnancy. Taking it without a prescription and medical monitoring – e.g. bought from “peptide shops” – is dangerous: unknown quality, no lab checks, no adjustment to blood pressure, kidney values or other medicines.
