What is Metandienone?
Metandienone is a testosterone derivative synthesised in 1955; 17α-methylation makes it orally active. It was marketed by Ciba as Dianabol. It can be converted to oestrogen.
How well studied is Metandienone?
Older clinical experience, no modern controlled studies. Current knowledge rests mainly on reports of misuse.
What side effects and risks does Metandienone have?
Higher blood pressure, water retention, gynaecomastia, acne, hair loss and metabolic disturbances (including blood lipids). Liver damage is to be expected with longer use; the hormone axis and fertility are suppressed. Virilisation in women.
Is Metandienone approved in Germany?
In short: no – only outside the EU. The original product was withdrawn in the early 1980s; not approved in Germany, still available in some other countries. WADA S1. Under Germany's Anti-Doping Act (AntiDopG), trading and supplying are prohibited, and even acquiring or possessing a “non-small quantity” (set by the Doping Substances Quantity Ordinance) is a criminal offence – including for recreational athletes and for personal use. Black-market products are frequently counterfeit, mislabelled or contaminated.
