What is Ezetimibe?
Reduces cholesterol absorption from the gut, so less cholesterol reaches the liver and LDL falls. Usually prescribed together with a statin.
How well studied is Ezetimibe?
Approved since the early 2000s; LDL lowering shown in registration trials, and a benefit on cardiovascular events in combination with a statin shown in large trials.
What side effects and risks does Ezetimibe have?
Diarrhoea, cold symptoms, joint/muscle pain. Rarely muscle breakdown (mainly combined with statins) and liver damage; not for moderate to severe liver disease. Interacts with bile acid sequestrants (cholestyramine etc.), ciclosporin, gemfibrozil and warfarin. No known direct interaction with GLP-1 drugs.
Is Ezetimibe approved in Germany?
In short: yes. Approved in Germany/EU, prescription-only. Not on the WADA Prohibited List. Taking it without a prescription and medical monitoring – e.g. bought from “peptide shops” – is dangerous: unknown quality, no lab checks, no adjustment to blood pressure, kidney values or other medicines.
