Cooling and transport
- Hand luggage: The hold can drop below 0 °C – frozen solutions are unusable
- Cool bag with ice pack: Never place the medication directly on the ice pack
- Check the package leaflet: Many approved pens may be kept unrefrigerated at room temperature for a limited time – the exact duration is in the leaflet
- Avoid heat: Never leave it in the car, in the sun by the pool or in the glove compartment
- At the hotel: Minibar fridges sometimes freeze – take a thermometer or don’t put it at the back against the wall
Flights, needles and certificates
Syringes, pens and needles are normally allowed in hand luggage if you can show that you need them. A doctor’s certificate in English stating the active substance and your need for it saves discussions at security. Ideally carry prescription medicines in their original packaging with the pharmacy label.
Customs and unapproved substances
For approved medicines with a prescription, the amount you need for personal use on a trip is usually not a problem – but rules vary by country. It is different with unapproved peptides: they cannot be prescribed, there is no certificate, and in some countries they are treated as prohibited substances. Confiscation is the mildest risk. Check with the embassy or customs authority of your destination country before you travel.
All-inclusive without a guilty conscience
- Take small plates – better to go back twice
- Protein first – fish, meat, eggs and yoghurt are available at every buffet
- Keep fatty and fried food small – on GLP-1 medications it quickly triggers nausea
- Drink alcohol mindfully, with water in between (see Alcohol on the weight-loss injection)
- Drink more in the heat – diarrhoea and vomiting dehydrate you faster
- Adjust your injection day to the time difference – for big time-zone jumps, check with your doctor beforehand

- Severe diarrhoea or vomiting on holiday, especially in the heat
- Signs of dehydration: dizziness, very little urine
- You want to shift your injection schedule because of the trip
